It took me a long time to finally get a felt brimmed hat. And I have never regretted it since. Originally I figured it was another great way to hide the 5-day hair, but trying out new hairstyles with it has made it an even more amazing staple to my closet. Looking cute, different, and still hiding that 5-day hair!
Part the hair in the center. With one half at a time, split the section of hair into two parts.
Take a piece from the outer left to place onto the right section of hair. Take a piece from the outer right to place with the left section of hair.
Alternate until you reach the end of the hair. Crossing over each piece to the other half. Tie in a little elastic. Keep a little bit at the end to leave some room when pulling out the texture. You do this by pulling on pieces of the braid, loosening and adding texture.
Repeat on other half of hair.
Part the hair in the center. Towards the neck put in an elastic tie. As you’re twisting the tie tighter gather more sections of the hair to pull through the elastic. Repeating until desired texture and tightness.
I usually add another hair tie to create a smaller bun. Usually need this for longer hair. And any pieces that are sticking out you can tuck in the elastic into any section of the bun. This helps add more texture and helps keep it more messy and not to neat.
Take a small section of hair from both sides of the head, bring them to the back of the head and secure with an elastic.
Once tightened twist the pony up and behind itself. (As pictured) repeat this as many times as you like.
Some styles go all the way down the pony. I would have put my loops closer together to hide the elastic better had I been able to see it.
Once each section is secured and twisted pull on the twists to add texture and volume to each loop.
I have loved these simple styles with or without a hat. But it makes wearing such a trendy piece still feel unique and confident! The hat can be found here and if you use code CATHV20 you can save 20%. It really has been my go to and I’m always getting compliments. It goes with everything and has kept it’s shape for months. And of course goes so well with the styles!
Wishing you a good hair day,
The Confidently Speaking
